Mesa Masks was a “kid business” dreamed up by Thekla Schultz and Lisa Rode with assistance from Cindy Muesing. It began with the pandemic which created a need for DIY cloth masks for the public. There was a shortage of elastic and so Lisa proposed that her kids could make ties from small elastic rubber bands. With time and experience, we improved the design. The elastic was replaced with soft, flexible baby head bands and the masks became much more comfortable. The kids returned to school and discontinued but Thekla and Cindy continued on. We have donated masks to local schools and non-profits. Proceeds from sales of masks go towards buying more supplies so we can continue making donations.
Mesa Masks follow CDC guidelines for 2 layers of fabric and have an interior pocket in which a coffee filter can be inserted for extra filtration. Ties have a toggle in the back so that the mask can be adjusted for a good fit. The mask should be washed and dried in hot water for necessary sanitation. Each mask has a built in pipe cleaner over the nose for a good fit. Masks come in a variety of fabrics including elegant satins, snow scenes, sports car flag, animals, plaid, flowers, and solid colors. Availability and fabrics vary from time to time. Please see photos of styles available.
